Congratulations to Sir Chris Hoy from all at Portsmouth North End Cycling Club!

Known until the 1980s as the PNECC or just "the North End", the dropping of the 'CC' from our racing kit means that many cyclists now just refer to us as "the PNE".  Whatever we call ourselves, our club has a long and distinguished history of promoting races and being the starting point for many young cyclists' careers.  We are lucky to have a wealth of experience at most of the sport’s disciplines and our committee plays a vital role in the organisation of the many races the club promotes throughout the year.  Our racing members enjoy training together and participating in a variety of races.  We also enjoy the social side of cycling, particularly in the winter when races are fewer.  Read about our history here.

Portsdown Time Trial League Prize Presentation

The 2008 season prize presentation and ‘American’ supper will take place at 1930 on Thursday 15 January 2009 at the D-Day Memorial Hall in Southwick.  Please bring some food to share around as this is the principle of an American supper.  Sausage rolls, cheese and biscuits, quiche, breadsticks and dip are all welcome – just use your imagination!  Tea and coffee will be available but feel free to bring your own drinks, alcoholic or otherwise.  Sheila will be there from about 1830 onwards if you what to turn up a bit early and help her set things up.

Welcome back Paul Bailey

We are please to welcome Paul back to us.  He now lives in north Wales and enjoys a bit of mountain biking (obviously!).  In his younger days Paul was a keen rough-stuff rider and was no stranger to the old Meon Valley railway line before it was formally designated a cycle path.

Welcome back Neil Taylor

We are pleased to welcome Neil back to us after a few years away from competitive cycling.  His original skinsuit still fits him well and we look forward to seeing him quickly becoming a regular sighting at next year’s local racing scene.

Well done Matt!

Congratulations to Matt Wyles for becoming our new hill climb champion!  Matt completed the ascent of Portchester Lane in a time of 3:05.6, beating former champion Rob Allen into second place by some 9 seconds.  As far as we can remember, this is the first time that Matt has raced in PNE colours for some 19 years.  What a way to make a comeback!

Welcome to Meridith Grimsley

Meridith has joined us just in time to ride the Hill Climb on 14 August 2008.  In doing so she is the third United States citizen to race in our colours in the last few years!

Change of club clothing design for 2009 racing season

The committee has unanimously decided that it is not in the interests of the club to change the design of the racing strip, including the red training tops, for at least another year.  This decision has not been taken lightly and is entirely due to the large amount of club funds currently held as clothing stock.  Therefore any club member who is in need of new clothing is strongly encouraged to make contact with Paul Martin who has taken over from Keith Allison as Procurement Officer.
