On a very wet and busy evening, Charlie Cresswell-Hogg, Jerry Collingwood, Tom Goodyer and Andy Carter were in action again. Jerry picked up another 5th placing after getting a half lap on the group in his race.
Unfortunately Toby Alexander (17) was unable to race as he didn't have his BC Race licence - which has now been remedied :o)

So you want to commence road racing?
What do you require?
A correctly set up bike
A comprehensive set of spares – another set of wheels an advantage
Dedication & Commitment to training – this can’t be under emphasised
Support for travel, mechanicals, training and the cost of racing
Administration-wise the following are required
Race Silver £36 or Race Gold £64 British Cycling Personal Membership (Suggest Race Silver is adequate)
BC race-silver-membership
Eligibilities explained
BC membership eligibilities.pdf
British Cycling Race Licence £32 (Senior)
There is the availability of day licences but at £10 a time can prove expensive. There is no ‘rush’ to by the race licence (in addition to the BC Membership). Once you’ve experienced the Wednesday training sessions with Tim Knight, and had the ‘feel’ of group riding, sprinting etc...all you need to do is apply for your Race Licence in good time before the race series commence. [many riders do this and licences often take ages to come through – at the start of the season BC often have to notify/confirm a member has applied/paid due to the backlog of licences not dispatched in time]
Fees for each race
These can vary but generally around £10 per race, this covers the hiring of the venue, costs of putting the race on etc...
Each race will have a “signing-on” sheet and your BC Race Licence will be held during the race.
You’ll start as a 4th Cat and as you attain good place finishes, accrue points and progress up the Cats. It’s important to appear at as many race meetings as possible to accumulate points, some races you will find poorly attended and thereby giving yourself a good chance of grabbing ‘easier’ points.
Categories and Classifications, you’ll start as a Fourth Category

Initially, and to get good experience, I would strongly recommend racing at closed circuit/track races. These are well attended and the group riding, ‘following a wheel’ and’ through and off’ will be skills you can hone up on. You need to be confident to ride without covering your brakes, rubbing shoulders, and fending off at speed in close formation.
Mountbatten Circuit Races would be an ideal introduction and as a local venue reduce any costs

On the events pages for Winter training and future events (normally races commence around February). If you look at the 2011 events you will find when the Mountbatten races (Portsmouth Omega Circuits) start to feature, race entries are downloaded completed and forwarded with payment by a closing date. If there are two sets of prices e.g. got to April 2011 ‘Saturday 23rd April 2011 Regional C+ 4/J4 8.00 10.00 40mins 0900’ = £8 postal entry or £10 Entry on the line (EOL) if any places are left! 40minutes plus 3 laps commencing at 0900 (give yourself chance to sign on and warm up). Click on ‘event information’ and all is revealed.
You will also see that Wednesday evenings feature, so you could race Wednesday and Saturday some weeks.
Thorney Island (Emmsworth old Airfield) features, as does Thruxton.
