Sunday 16th January 2022. My 2nd "come and try it ride " with the club before later submitting my membership application ( thankfully it was accepted). 20 or so riders met at 9am ish at the meeting point and after some chat and information about the club calendar of events we split into the different pace groups ,Social, Progressive, Inter and Sport .Each group leader gave an overview of the planned route. I was in the Social group, ably led by Mark, who stopped at various points along the ride to allow the group to come together and also helped one of the riders with their bike set up. Apart from having others who can help with mechanicals the benefits of group riding include being shown roads / lanes etc that you haven't ridden before, riding in a controlled way at different speeds as well as being able to learn from experienced and knowledgeable cyclists. In the latter part of the ride we stopped at QE Country Park for coffee / tea and cake, sportingly purchased bu our leader. The weather, mild throughout also brightened in the second half end of the 45 mile or so ride. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you PNECC.

On my first ride with Portsmouth north end cycling club I was made to feel welcome, included and safe whilst out on a Sunday club ride. Since then I made some great friends and feel like I part of the heritage. For anyone looking for a local club I cannot recommend them enough.

Joined a 'Try Out Ride' with PNECC on Sunday after many years (35+) away from the sport of cycling; now retired I want to get back to do social rides at a good level. Made to feel really welcome. I started struggling on the inclines after about 22 miles...🥵. My own silly fault, I failed to eat a proper breakfast or take water with me..🤢. Bloody sugars dropped. I had forgotten some basic 'must dos' over the years; schoolboy errors. I was however very well looked after and rescued by the experienced riders. Rather embarrassing for me 😊, but I do intend to go back soon and 'Try Out' again, this time better prepared. It was enjoyable despite my failings 🙄. Thank you.
